Lon Augustenborg

Senior Advisor

Lon is a Senior Advisor to Teneo.

He recently completed a 35-year career in the CIA’s Clandestine Service, which included nine field assignments. Most recently he headed the CIA’s largest domestic office, where he worked closely with the U.S. private sector. He served as Chief of Station in the CIA’s flagship locations in East Asia and Latin America. Additionally, he was Chief of Operations for the CIA’s Counter Intelligence Center in Washington, DC. Lon’s other assignments included locations in the former Soviet Union, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

Prior to entering the CIA, Lon was a Los Angeles Police Officer with assignments in the LAPD’s Intelligence Public Affairs divisions, as well as multiple uniform divisions, working felony crimes.

A recipient of many exceptional performance and management awards, Lon chaired the CIA’s leadership and teamwork training program for its high performance Clandestine Service officers. He has served on numerous promotion panels and strategic planning boards for the Agency and the intelligence community. He has also worked closely with countless foreign partners on four continents, providing training, assistance, and leadership of joint programs.

Lon holds a B.A. from the University of Southern California in International Relations and Social Studies and an M.A. from Pepperdine University in Public Communication. He also completed a year of study at the University College, London England, in the Center for International Conflict Resolution. Lon is fluent in Spanish, and has also completed full-time language studies courses in Russian, Italian and Hungarian.

Lon is married with four children. He currently lives in the Northern Virginia area.
