Mike has over 35-years of experience in the public and private sectors creating multi-disciplinary communications campaigns that educate key stakeholder groups, move public opinion, enhance brand and reputation and protect an organization’s license to operate.
Prior to joining Teneo, Mike was managing director and member of the leadership team at Purple Strategies where he was responsible for the development of strategy and activation plans for a number of the agency’s clients including Fortune 500 companies, trade associations and institutions. He developed issue management campaigns; crisis preparedness and response plans; public policy programs; labor communications strategies; earned and digital media campaigns; advocate development operations; marketing programs; and advocacy advertising campaigns for clients in the energy, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, education, insurance and hospitality sectors.
Before Purple Strategies, he launched and managed his own boutique communications and issue management firm, HudsonLake, focused on providing expert senior counsel and seasoned tactical support in specialty practice areas including workplace communications, crisis preparedness and response, public policy, and reputation support.
From 1999 – 2012, Mike was chairman of the U.S. Public Affairs practice and southwest region for Burson-Marsteller. He launched the agency’s presence in the southwest; was a founding member of the Labor and Workforce Relations sub-practice; a certified member of the crisis response team; and a founding member of the Diversity and Inclusion Counsel. His efforts included communications surrounding the first case of Mad Cow Disease in the U.S., the introduction of electric deregulation in Texas, voter education as part of the Help America Vote Act, the collapse of one of the largest mortgage lenders and labor organizing and contract negotiations in virtually all industry segments.
Prior to his private sector experience, he worked at the highest levels of government and politics having spent four year in the White House under President Reagan, on Capitol Hill as assistant press secretary to U.S. Senator Pete Wilson of California and a staff member on five presidential campaigns.
