Yuri van der Leest is a Managing Director with Teneo’s Strategy & Communications business, based in Hong Kong SAR.

Yuri works closely with Asia-based and global clients across the asset management, investment banking, real estate investment, fintech, legal and art sectors. He is skilled in developing thought leadership to drive client marketing and communication strategy across Asia and global markets.

Prior to joining Teneo, Yuri was Senior Investment Writer with Manulife Asset Management Hong Kong SAR, where he worked closely with the President of International Asset Management and analysts to produce thought leadership highlighting market and policy trends in the Asia Pacific region.

Prior to this he was Senior Editor in Asia for the Royal Bank of Scotland (Hong Kong SAR), where he worked closely with analysts and compliance personnel to produce timely, insightful and high-quality sell-side equity research.

Before coming to Hong Kong SAR, Yuri worked in a communications function with the Nova Scotia Government in Canada, played a key sales and marketing role for a semiconductor design startup in Portland, Oregon, USA and helped LG.Philips LCD (now LG Display) complete its NYSE listing while living and working in Seoul, South Korea. Prior to this he worked with LG Securities and Samsung Securities, also in Seoul.

Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Yuri has more than 16 years of experience living and working in Asia. Currently based in Hong Kong SAR, he previously lived and worked for almost nine years in South Korea and for more than one year in the United States.

Yuri holds an M.B.A. from the University of Hong Kong, where he graduated on the dean’s list; an M.A. in English Literature from Queen’s University in Canada; and a B.A. (Honours) in English Literature from Dalhousie University in Canada. He has also passed level one of the CFA exam.

Yuri is a native English speaker and is conversant in French and Korean.
