Mark Stanley

Mark Stanley is a Director with Teneo in London, having joined Teneo as part of its purchase of Deloitte’s UK Restructuring business.

Mark has 15 years of corporate restructuring experience. He specialises in advising corporate and financial services clients to; simplify complex international group structures through entity rationalisation, wind down and exit under-performing/non-core operations and contingency planning for winding down of trading operations. His experience also includes advising clients on debt restructuring mandates.

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA)
  • Degree in Management Science (BSc)

Selected Project Experience

  • Mark has led a team that has delivered a transformational legal entity rationalisation/simplification project for a major UK retail bank reducing the number of companies in the group by 75%, releasing £250m in capital from non-core subsidiaries and delivering significant annual cost savings across finance and other business functions.
  • During 2020 Mark led a team to re-design the wind down contingency plan for a UK retail bank with 30,000 customers and £445m of assets. This experience involved; working with the bank’s executives to agree a wind down strategy, creating a wind down plan and supporting materials (including cash-flow projections and balance sheet modelling), reporting directly to the bank’s Chief Financial Officer, Management Committee and obtaining both board and regulatory approval from the Prudential Regulation Authority.
  • Mark recently led work with an international private bank to implement their global strategy of reducing the number of booking centres. This required him to work directly with the CFO, CEO and CRO to create a Cessation of Business Plan covering 1,400 clients and £2.8bn of AUM. The plan covered the operational, financial and legal wind down of business and required approval from the Board of Directors and the regulator.
  • Working directly with senior executives of a major UK fashion retailer, Mark was responsible for shaping the restructuring strategy, analysing and reporting on large data sets, reporting to the board of directors and successfully implementing a complex restructuring programme. This resulted in 15 liquidations across the UK housing £490m of debt and the execution of a restructuring plan covering Jersey, France and Cyprus.
  • Working for the executive directors of a large privately owned engineering business, Mark has been the lead restructuring advisor. His role covered providing strategic advice to the directors by analysing the group’s current financial position, creating an entity priority model to optimise the strategy for disposing of circa £60m of assets, winding up legacy interests, managing contingent risks and returning assets to shareholders.
  • His experience of debt restructuring includes advising private equity investors on debt restructuring plans to exit legacy financing structures with debt of £300m and; supporting the directors of a private equity backed engineering group to consolidate financing positions within the group for the purposes of reducing complexity of the capital structure.
  • Mark’s expertise within financial services also includes the solvent exit and wind down of a Swiss private banking operation for a leading international bank. Working closely with colleagues and the client’s senior management team to analyse €3bn assets under management, report to regulators and planning for winding up the bank’s operations.
  • Mark has led an international team to restructure a global consulting business with operations in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East, following its acquisition in a deal worth $120m. He has led; restructuring strategy, running off legacy trading operations, financial reporting, governance, negotiating with key stakeholders and reporting to the Board of Directors.
