Lucas van Praag

Senior Managing Director

Lucas van Praag is a Senior Managing Director with Teneo.

Prior to joining Teneo, Lucas was the co-founder and Managing Partner of Fitzroy Communications, which was acquired by Teneo in April 2017.

Before founding Fitzroy, Lucas spent twelve years at Goldman Sachs, where he was the Global Head of Corporate Communications and a Partner of the firm. In addition to being responsible for internal and external communication, firmwide marketing and matters related to the firm’s reputation, he was a member of the European Management Committee and the Firmwide Business Standards Committee. During his time at Goldman Sachs, he played a critical role in helping the firm navigate through one of the most difficult and testing environments the firm has faced, particularly during the financial crisis and its aftermath.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Lucas spent eight years as a Partner at Brunswick Group, an international corporate communications consultancy, where he advised on a wide variety of issues and transactions for clients in the UK, Europe, South Africa and the US. These included hostile bid and defense mandates, privatizations, litigation, primary and secondary capital raisings, demutualization, crises and management and board changes. He also worked on corporate and investment issues for private equity firms and asset management companies.

Lucas began his career in financial services as a banker with Bankers Trust Company in New York. Before becoming involved in strategic communications, he ran a UK-based textile manufacturing company and, subsequently, was the Managing Director of a publishing company.

Lucas is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford’s Said Business School, a member of the Board of Directors of FACES at NYU Langone Medical Center and serves on the Board of Trustees of Eaglebrook School in Massachusetts. He holds a joint honors degree in economics and economic history from the University of Durham in the UK. He has British and American citizenship.
