Takashi Hirono is Senior Managing Director and Head of Transactions and Special Situations in Japan.
Based in Tokyo, he collaborates across Teneo’s global advisory platform to deliver integrated, senior-level counsel to clients at critical inflection points. He also works closely with colleagues across the firm to drive growth and deepen client relationships in the Japanese market.
Takashi brings more than two decades of experience advising boards and senior executives on complex, high-stakes mandates where financial, regulatory and reputational considerations converge. His expertise spans M&A, activism defence, investor relations, special situations and crisis management, supporting clients through transactions and other market-facing moments, as well as complex stakeholder environments.
Drawing on his background in investment banking, Takashi integrates capital markets insight with regulatory engagement and crisis leadership. He advises decision-makers on clear, disciplined positioning in situations where stakeholder interests diverge and credibility, timing and tone are decisive.
Prior to joining Teneo, Takashi served as Executive Vice President and Head of Japan at Edelman Smithfield, where he also led crisis response and was a member of the Global Litigation & Legal Affairs leadership team. Earlier in his career, he held advisory roles at Deutsche Bank’s securities business and UBS, and he began his career at the Industrial Bank of Japan (now Mizuho Bank).
