Michael Owen

Senior Managing Director

Michael Owen is a Senior Managing Director with Teneo’s Financial Advisory business, based in Brisbane.

He has more than 30 years of experience providing financial and corporate advisory services, including portfolio reviews, due diligence, solvency reports, risk assessments and formal insolvency appointments. Prior to joining Teneo following its acquisition of PwC’s Australian Business Restructuring Services unit, Michael was a Partner at PwC and other global advisory firms. He has also held senior institutional banking roles at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, where he managed a team responsible for approximately 250 institutional clients with loan assets of around AUD10 billion.

Michael has broad experience across financial services, mining, education, healthcare, real estate, transport and not-for-profit sectors. His work includes being Court appointed as receiver and manager of the Presbyterian Church in Queensland, leading reviews of institutional bank loan portfolios exceeding AUD8 billion, conducting structured finance portfolio risk assessments of a AUD 1.5 billion portfolio and reviewing more than AUD 2 billion of renewable energy projects. He has also acted as safe harbour advisor to listed and multinational companies, supported distressed mining operations and appointed to other major formal insolvency appointments including Rivercity Motorway Group, AirportlinkM7 and Queensland Nickel.

Michael holds a Master of Applied Finance, a Bachelor of Commerce and is a graduate of the AICDs Company Directors Course and Insol Internationals Global Insolvency Program. He is a Chartered Accountant, a Registered Liquidator, a Fellow of Insol International and the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association (ARITA) and a Member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
