Director

Matt is a Director in the Political team in Teneo’s London practice. He works with clients on policy, political and regulatory issues in the UK.

He joined Teneo in 2021 after a 12-year career in the UK Civil Service. He has extensive experience of working at the highest levels within government, including as the Principal Private Secretary to the Trade Secretary, Liz Truss (2019-2021), advising her on the most important issues, and playing a key role in the development of the UKs new trade agreements outside of the EU.

Prior to this, Matt was the Deputy Director in charge of the Exports & Investment Policy Unit in the Department for International Trade (DIT), where he was responsible for the publication of the Government’s Export Strategy in 2018. Before this, he spent two and a half years as a Senior Private Secretary in both DIT and the Department for Business, working for Greg Hands and Sajid Javid.

In his early career, he held a variety of roles in the Department for Business and UK Trade & Investment, working on issues including regional economic development, advanced manufacturing, and energy.

Matt is a former Policy Fellow at the Centre for Science and Policy at Cambridge University, holds a BA in Politics from the University of Sheffield, and a PgCert in Management from the Hult International Business School.
