George Matthews

Associate Director

George Matthews is an Associate Director in Teneo’s Financial Advisory practice with extensive experience of providing financial advice to corporates, lenders, shareholders, and regulators.

George has a broad sector experience, managing projects across energy and energy transition, infrastructure, multi-site retail, leisure and financial services. George specialises in the financial services sector with experience across a broad range of FS subsectors, including securitisations, mortgage products, consumer credit, insurance, and fintech. He leads Teneo Financial Advisory’s Funds proposition in London.
George has a wide range of restructuring and financial advisory experience. His experience focusses on big-ticket and international projects, providing contingency planning and insolvency advice to complement broader financial restructuring negotiations. This includes preparation of Schemes of Arrangement and relevant alternative analysis, as well as planning for, and implementation of, non-consensual solutions.

George is a qualified corporate Insolvency Practitioner and ACA qualified chartered accountant, having qualified with Deloitte’s Private Equity audit and transaction assurance practice.

  • Project Arrow – Advising the Lenders to a complex private equity fund structure on their options for recovery of a defaulted loan.
  • Project Leaf – Advising a real estate private equity firm on its restructuring.
  • Project Cirrus and Project Kraft – Contingency planning support on behalf of the Lenders to two Swedish wind-farms.
  • Project Elm – Liquidity and forecast review of a portfolio of CMBS & RMBS securitisation vehicles for the SPV directors.
  • Project Red – Advising the directors of a global insurance investment holding company on non-consensual options.
  • Project Jingle – Relevant comparator report on behalf of a PE-backed, international business as part of a Part 26 Scheme.
  • Project Connect – Advising the FCA in relation to a proposed consumer credit provider’s Part 26 Scheme.
  • Sova Capital Limited – Special administration of a UK based prime brokerage and prop trading firm.
  • Project Paint – Contingency planning for an emerging markets contracting business.
