The role

Associate Directors have responsibility for leading and overseeing team delivery on client engagements and support teams to deliver to the highest standards. They establish a trusted relationship with clients and are the day-to-day advisor on projects. They influence and inspire new thinking and take an active role in contributing to our Teneo Performance Consulting culture, practice and performance.

They create a positive team environment ensuring everyone has a clear role and opportunity to learn and develop. An Associate Director holds a key role in supporting junior team members’ development; ensuring opportunities to learn, on-the-job coaching and a motivating team environment to work in.

 Associate Directors need to consider and contribute to the retention and development of our best talent both as a client team leader and mentor/coach.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Engagement

  • Manages overall client engagements and becomes the lead contact for many clients.
  • Manages project set-up determining an effective scope of work with clarity on timeline, deliverables, interdependencies, and resourcing based on a strong understanding of best practice project management
  • Builds strong client relationships through effective communication, responsiveness and care.
  • Acts as, and is, a trusted senior adviser, building strong and deep client relationships at all levels of the client’s organisation
  • Provides a forward-looking approach through deep knowledge of client’s business, issues and competitors
  • Develops approaches from scratch with the ability to pivot and offer alternative solutions when challenged without compromising the objective of the assignment
  • Interacts with clients in a clear and effective manner ensuring they feel heard, understood and listened to.
  • Critically examines client requests / briefs and ask the right questions to ensure breadth of understanding of requirements and interdependencies
  • Manages projects profitably, with clear scope of work and an understanding of agreed expectations
  • Undertakes effective programme and project management and planning providing clear and digestible updates, timelines and projections.
  • Develops the capabilities of junior members of the team, seeking opportunities to increase involvement and delegation ensuring sufficient oversight and support is given
  • Understands how and when to bring senior colleagues in to enhance work and keep them informed of potential issues
  • Draws on client experience and external trends to advise team on how to best meet client’s current and future needs
  • Takes time to ensure briefs are understood and that resource/time are sufficient to deliver against expectations
  • Takes responsibility for the team, that standards of the deliverables and the client relationship management
  • Interprets client’s needs anticipating issues or conflicts and proposing solutions to the team / client.
  • Is results-driven but also able to manage expectations and can defuse situations.

Consulting

  • Thought Leadership, undertaking research and analysis to problem solve, developing insights and providing recommendations
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Has strong in person and online presentation skills and is a confident and clear presenter
  • Asks questions and seeks advice from senior colleagues and peers to leverage their experience and build own skills and knowledge
  • Is a strong team manager and has demonstrated the ability to oversee complex project by setting priorities and providing clear delegation and timelines.
  • Is capable in building an approach and ideating on solutions working both individually and as part of a team to deliver project work
  • Is a self-starter who can drive own engagements and initiatives with minimal input
  • Delivers finished products and undertakes task with attention to detail, focusing on always delivering the highest of standards in a timely manner
  • Regularly attends relevant events/briefings/meetings, both online and in person, to build an internal network of contacts
  • Demonstrates an analytical approach to identifying problems and potential solutions and can think laterally/creatively to mitigate risks and develop alternative approaches
  • Stays abreast of political, social and digital trends and techniques to enhance work
  • Takes personal responsibility for investing in own development, seeking opportunities to learn new things and broaden skills

Support of the Performance Consulting Practice

  • Communicating & prioritising tasks assigned effectively, ensuring personal and team capacity management, managing deadlines and reprioritisation
  • Alongside Directors, ensure the team is resourced appropriately so everyone can deliver effectively and develop expertise/experience
  • Develops motivated and high performing teams by focusing on shared success, continuous personal development and wellbeing
  • Supports all new joiners to settle in, understand their role and find their feet
  • Provides strong career development through mentoring and coaching within teams and across the consultancy
  • Supports a healthy work-life balance for teams to ensure high performance and motivation
  • Ensures on-going feedback and identifies and acts on poor performance quickly and constructively
  • As a Talent Manager ensures appraisals and PDPs are completed and that development plans are regularly reviewed, identifying clear opportunities for personal growth and progression
  • Makes a demonstrable effort to foster good working relationships with peers across the business and uses these relationships to create a better understanding of different parts of the consultancy and our offer
  • Understands the basis of our pricing and the budget for projects/activities they are involved in
  • Undertakes weekly and monthly status updates and spotlight presentations to the group and to the wider firm
  • Organises and coordinates Practice meetings and events
  • Focuses team on regularly reviewing learnings and continuous improvement

Business Development

  • Is an ambassador for Teneo by confidently representing all parts of the business and expertise
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to learn from other areas of the business
  • Finds opportunities to introduce the full range of Teneo services and expertise to existing clients and new contacts
  • Proactively thinks of new ways to take our offer into the market and encourages peers and teams to do likewise
  • Actively networks to identify new business opportunities and develop the consultancy’s reputation with potential clients and prospects
  • Assists in the compiling, reviewing, editing and submission of tenders, letters of engagement, proposals and other key deliverables under the Business Development remit
  • Assists in the internal and external promotion of Performance Consulting programmes such as Winning Self
  • Provides support to senior leadership on new business initiatives (e.g. research, development of proposals/approaches/ideas)
  • Harnessing their interaction and engagement with clients [ear to the ground] Consultant’s will flag potential areas of growth for additional TPC offerings and/or wider Teneo offerings
  • Makes demonstrable effort to foster good working relationships with peers in other areas of the firm and use these to create better understanding of different parts of the business and our wider offer

Requirements:

    1. Third – level qualification; Master’s degree desirable
    2. 5+ years’ experience in Management Consulting
    3. Relevant client and industry experience.
    4. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
    5. High attention to detail and ability to manage information with complete discretion and confidentiality
    6. Good analytical and problem-solving skills
    7. Team and resource management experience

Desirable:

    1. Previous experience in Strategy work including but not limited to organisation & operating model design and implementation, strategic roadmaps, and planning
    2. Previous experience in performance leadership & culture change
    3. Previous experience working with Senior Leadership Teams and the C-suite
    4. Business and/or management related qualifications
    5. Skills in particular tools or software for researching, designing, and completing analysis.
