The role

A Consultant at Teneo’s Performance Consulting Practice plays a pivotal role in managing client’s day to day deliverables and project-based scope of work; anticipating needs, identifying potential issues and proposing solutions. Strong and effective communication and client management is expected in the role of a consultant. Consultants set high standards monitoring quality of work, ensuring agreed timelines are met and providing quality control for all client deliverables.

A Consultant also plays a key role in supporting the wider team and fosters a collegial and open environment where learning and asking questions is welcomed and encouraged. Consultants should be comfortable in assisting to upskill new and more junior colleagues in the dimensions of consulting work and skills.

Key Responsibilities:

 Client Engagement

  • Builds strong client relationships through effective communication, responsiveness, and care.
  • Interacts with clients in a clear and effective manner ensuring they feel heard, understood, and listened to.
  • Critically examines client requests / briefs and ask the right questions to ensure breadth of understanding of requirements and interdependencies
  • Designing and developing client ready work from scratch.
  • Monitoring the quality and standards of deliverables.
  • Prepares well for client meetings ensuring timely scheduling, clear agendas and that all appropriate materials/reports are created to a high standard and ready ahead of time.
  • Can execute certain client engagements independently with minimal supervision.
  • Interprets clients’ needs anticipating issues or conflicts and proposing solutions to the team / client.
  • Is results-driven but also able to manage expectations and can defuse situations.
  • Provides the coordination for client work, managing up and down within the team.
  • Leads in the communication and management of specific client workstreams / sub deliverables.
  • Demonstrates good presentation skills at client meetings and strong writing skills in emails, documents, PowerPoint decks and other deliverables.
  • Takes responsibility for coordinating client status and reporting, minuting meetings and tracking actions.
  • Takes responsibility for client WIP reports, and/or development of evaluation reports, producing these to a high standard.


  • Thought Leadership: as part of a team undertake research and analysis to problem solve, developing insights and providing recommendations
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills, and is a confident and clear presenter
  • Can structure and undertake high quality research.
  • Solves problems through designing and completing analysis.
  • Asks questions and seeks advice from senior colleagues and peers to leverage their experience and build own skills and knowledge
  • Is capable in building the foundation of documents and deliverables from scratch, brainstorming, and ideating on short or incomplete briefs, helping to kick off the narrative and approach of the work the team will deliver
  • Undertakes task with attention to detail, focusing on always delivering the highest of standards in a timely manner
  • Diligently pays attention to detail and provides accurate and consistent quality work which requires limited input/edits
  • Regularly attends relevant events/briefings/meetings, both online and in person, to build an internal network of contacts
  • Takes clear meeting notes, develops project / task trackers and delivers clear and succinct reports on progress on both client and internal work when asked, with the ability to provide necessary detail and ‘paper trails.
  • Produces strong deliverables [PowerPoints, Excel Trackers, Meeting Notes, Word Docs/PDFs, etc.] using clear and digestible language/formats/diagrams.
  • Seeks relevant input to work, in a timely fashion, before providing final draft to deliver to a high standard.
  • Takes time to ensure briefs are understood and that determined time is sufficient to deliver against expectations
  • Demonstrates an analytical approach to identifying problems and potential solutions and can think laterally/creatively to mitigate risks and develop alternative approaches
  • Sets and maintains high standards and seeking to exceed expectations
  • Stays abreast of political, social and digital trends and techniques to enhance work
  • Takes personal responsibility for investing in own development, seeking opportunities to learn new things and broaden skills

Support of the Performance Consulting Practice

  • Looks ahead and proactively manages the coordination of deadlines to support the whole team
  • Project coordination: communicating & prioritising tasks assigned effectively, ensuring personal capacity management, managing deadlines and reprioritisation
  • Supports new ACs and Researchers/Analysts settle in and understand their role
  • Makes a demonstrable effort to foster good working relationships with peers across the business and uses these relationships to create a better understanding of different parts of the consultancy and our offer
  • Undertakes weekly and monthly status updates and spotlight presentations to the group
  • Organises and coordinates Practice meetings and events
  • Consultants will demonstrate attention to detail, be highly organised with the ability to undertake several ongoing asks simultaneous prioritising effectively.

Business Development

  • Support new business development activity on existing and prospective clients
  • Assisting in the compiling, reviewing, editing and submission of tenders, letters of engagement, proposals, and other key deliverables under the Business Development remit
  • Assists in the internal and external promotion of Performance Consulting programmes such as Winning Self
  • Provides support to senior leadership on new business initiatives (e.g. research, development of proposals/approaches/ideas)
  • Acts as an ambassador for the consultancy, able to represent our positioning and all our offering
  • Demonstrates a proactive attitude to business development and supports team in identifying opportunities for organic growth and introducing clients to internal experts
  • Harnessing their interaction and engagement with clients [ear to the ground] Consultant’s will flag potential areas of growth for additional TPC offerings and/or wider Teneo offerings
  • Undertakes good quality research to identify and develop new practice areas and new client opportunities.
  • Makes demonstrable effort to foster good working relationships with peers in other areas of the firm and use these to create better understanding of different parts of the business and our wider offer

    1. Third – level qualification; Master’s degree desirable
    2. 3+ years’ experience in Management Consulting
    3. Relevant or similar client and industry experience.
    4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    5. Proficient across Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
    6. An ability to work across multiple tasks, completing them to the highest standard in a timely manner
    7. Enthusiastic with a curiosity and willingness to learn and progress
    8. High attention to detail and ability to manage information with complete discretion and confidentiality
    9. Good analytical and problem-solving skills
    10. Friendly with a preference of working in collaborative and team-oriented environments


    1. Previous experience in Strategy work including but not limited to organisation & operating model design and implementation, strategic roadmaps and planning
    2. Previous experience in performance leadership & culture change
    3. Skills in particular tools or software for researching, designing and completing analysis.
    4. Previous experience working with Senior Leadership Teams and the C-suite
