Senior Managing Director, Strategic Communications and Research

We are looking for a Senior (Managing) Director with strong expertise in insight-led reputation strategy. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior roles either within political and election-winning strategy, in-house corporate strategy and research, or in a senior research role within a consultancy.

As a Senior Managing Director within Teneo you’ll lead, and work as part of, large and often integrated teams to develop winning strategies grounded in audience insight that have impact for our clients. Key Responsibilities

  • Leading strategy projects to help our clients identify and define their strategic positioning, narrative and campaign strategy
  • Acting as strategic counsel to senior clients
  • Developing strategies that are rooted in audience insight and help clients meet their business objectives
  • Client servicing, profitability, forecasting and budgeting
  • Growing existing client briefs and contributing to winning new business
  • Leading new business pitches and bringing teams together to win new work
  • Generating new business leads through networks and proactive opportunity spotting
  • Provide insight and intelligence through relevant networking
  • Proactively contributing to and fostering a knowledge-sharing environment with clients and colleagues - seeking new insights, knowledge and expertise
  • Innovating on behalf of clients and the team, challenging the status quo with new thinking, new IP development, and new ways of working
  • Playing a role in the management of the wider team at Teneo
  • Talent management of junior colleagues

(Where candidates have come from a non-traditional consultancy / business background, we would be prepared to accelerate learning and development in these areas).

Key Skills & Experience

  • Working in a senior role in either politics, research, industry or consultancy is essential
  • Demonstrable experience in developing impactful insights and strategic thinking
  • Excellent ability to shape and deliver strategic advice to senior level clients
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods, in particular focus groups, depth interviews and polling, as well as using insight to shape strategic decision-making
  • Experience in developing campaign strategies, drafting narratives and positioning statements
  • Gravitas when working with senior executives of global clients
  • Able to manage and mentor junior staff
  • An engaging self-starter with strong attention to detail
  • Seen as a credible ‘voice’ to both client and internal stakeholders alike
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to foster good working relationships
  • Proven networking skills
  • Understanding of budgets and financial management
  • Comfortable taking the lead on driving performance and revenue – and/or willingness to learn to take the lead on doing so
