Business Development (Associate), Management Consulting

The Role

The Business Development (Associate) will sit within Management Consulting’s Business Development Team.  This role will provide best in class support to the delivery of business development activities, with a specific focus on the activities of Teneo’s Pricing Practice.

The Business Development (Associate) should develop an awareness of Teneo’s different divisions and capabilities, whilst developing deep expertise in the project work of the Pricing Practice.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development output production

  • Supporting the creation of project proposals in response to specific client briefs:
    • Creation of proposal outlines using appropriate formatting and graphics
    • Summarising the context of the proposal and the approach proposed
    • Depicting the scope and activities on the basis of MD/SMD input into the proposed approach
    • Detailing the activities, timetable, team, governance structure, dependencies required for the project
    • Calculating the proposed fees for an engagement based on the relevant staffing profile and project timeline
    • Selecting appropriate case studies to demonstrate Teneo’s capabilities
  • Reactive research and preparation activities for BD meetings and campaigns, to include target profiling and executive contact research

Practice development

  • Scheduling and contributing to Pricing practice meetings – noting actions and decisions
  • Collation and development of sales and sector IP to support the creation of proposals:
    • Responsibility for building and maintaining a reference library of collateral to support efficient creation of proposals and bids in a standardized manner
      • Collating useful slides for re-use / re-purpose across different proposals
      • Managing the creation and sign-off of Pricing-related case studies
      • Updating introductory slides and sales collateral
  • Develops an awareness (evolving into deep expertise) of the different project types, approaches activities, deliverables, credentials, case studies and other corporate information required to respond to requests for credentials and proposal materials

Reporting relationships

  • Works with the Head of Pricing to stay informed of the Pricing opportunity pipeline
  • Works with the Business Development Manager to understand priorities on a daily and weekly basis and is proactive in the support required, anticipating needs and plans ahead


  • Supports a learning culture and plays an active role in sharing knowledge and insight across the BD team
  • Acts as ambassador for Consulting and is able to explain our offer effectively

Skills and Experience

  • Consistently demonstrates desire to set and meet high standards of quality by learning new skills/design techniques to enhance proposal production and to ensure good understanding of how to use the Teneo brand and templates
  • Competency in taking verbal and written input and turning into attractive, client-ready output with limited supervision
  • Desire to learn new things, broaden skills and develop deep knowledge of Pricing projects within consulting
  • Comfortable managing a reference library of content to support proposal creation
  • Proactive in identifying needs and finding solutions; is flexible and adaptable in taking on new tasks or supporting other areas of the business when required
  • Proficiency with key software packages, including the Microsoft suite of products e.g. PowerPoint (core software for proposal development), Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Demonstrates a collegiate and collaborative style, actively getting to know peers across the Consulting and other Teneo’s divisions, using this to better understand all areas of our offer
  • Presents a positive outlook, and is seen as committed and enthusiastic
  • Acts with discretion, integrity and professionalism at all times
  • Calm under pressure and bounces back from setbacks
